Bill Burton passed today

, , ,

Article: Bill Burton passed today. Not to be confused with the politician Bill Burton, this Bill Burton was the writer of the Fishing column for the Baltimore Sun and the Bay Weekly and a champion for the Chesapeake Bay and her waterways.

I can remember him judging a fishing contest at Martinak State Park when I was around 10 yrs old. I didn't win, but he was nice enough to sign an autograph for me (which I have probably lost long ago). I never forgot how nice he was and how interesting he was as well. I continued to read his column in the Bay Weekly long after he retired from the Baltimore Sun.

In some ways Bill shaped my attitudes towards the Chesapeake and its waterways. His passion for the Bay lives on in the many kids he imprinted his love of fishing, conservation, and stewardship of the Bay on.
